Every culture and even the various denominations within each culture, tends to have a slightly different meaning/use/purpose for their magical correspondences. On top of that, many authors will phrase their terminology slightly different than another writer, causing many people to believe the list is actually different. After this has been done multiple times, we end up with lists that appear to be completely different in many cases.

It is important to realize that all the magical correspondences included in this list are mere tools to help you tap into where the true power resides, inside you. One tool will work as good as another if you believe it will. At the same time, if you believe you absolutely must have a specific item for your magic to work, it will not work without that item.

The following magical correspondences lists have been found in ancient text and modern writings. Some of the sources are lost to history. To keep down confusion, I have simply place them all in a single list and removed as many duplicates as I could. This should leave you with as short of a list as possible and as the same time, as complete of a list as any magical correspondences list can be.

Planetary Hours For Magical Workings – Modern

The modern method for computing planetary hours is much easier for many people simply because it is based on a day in which midnight to 1 am is considered the first hour of the day, versus the first hour after sun rise being considered the first hour of the day in the traditional chart.

You need only to find the planet you wish to work under then look down the chart to find the hours ruled by that planet and plan your workings during that time frame.

Starts
at
Sunday Monday Tuesday Wed. Thursday Friday Saturday
Midnight Sun Moon Mars Mercury Jupiter Venus Saturn
1:00am Venus Saturn Sun Moon Mars Mercury Jupiter

Planetary Hours For Magical Workings- Traditional

Planetary Hours

Many people prefer to work their magic duringĀ  specific planetary hours for the planet that rules the outcome of their magic. For instance, someone working love magic would work it during one of the hours of Venus, on the day of Venus which is Friday. The following chart gives the planetary hours for each of the major planets.

To find the proper planetary hour hour for your workings, being by finding the sunrise for your part of the world by Visiting this calculator. Once you know when your sunrise is, simply find the planet you will be working under, on the 2nd line of the chart, then look down the chart to find the hours in which your planet rules between sunrise and sunset. Notice the top part of the chart partially repeats as much as needed to get to sunset. The bottom part of the chart contains the hours ruled after sunset.

Astronomical Clock

As an example, suppose I was doing work under the Sun and sunrise in my part of the world was at 6:39 am and sunset is at 8:49 PM. My hours to work for day would be as follows.

  • 6:39 – 7:39 am – 1st hour
  • 2:39 – 3:39 pm – 2nd hour
  • The next time is after sunset, so I drop down to the bottom of the chart
  • 11:49 pm – 12:49 am

It is important to note when using the traditional planetary hours chart, the “day” does not begin at midnight as we normally see it in the mundane world. It begins at sunrise which is why you could actually work your magic after midnight, but still be considered on the same day. We will include the modern chart of planetary hours used by some people in another post.

Which chart you prefer is completely up to you. The traditional planetary hours chart can be a little hard to work with because you need to know when sunrise and sunset is for your part of the world. The modern chart is based on a day that begins at midnight, which is how most of the world views things now. This is simpler for most people because counting the hours begins with midnight to 1 am being the first hour and you do not have to worry with minutes.

I am an older witch and was raise with the traditional chart. For this reason, I tend to use it more often than not. However I have used the modern chart on several occasions and I find it works just as well as the traditional chart and it is much easier to work with.

The choice is your in which planetary chart you choose to use. I suggest you try them both and see which one resonates within you. Allow your own intuition to guide you in your choice and you will be find.

We will include the modern planetary chart in another post.
